Vorsprung Telum Review — from an authorised installer
We are Bikefix Genarp — an authorised Vorsprung installer and one of the few European workshops with a CTW RD2 dyno on site. We've installed, tuned and dyno-verified Telum shocks on enduro, trail and e-MTB platforms across Scandinavia. This is what we actually tell customers when they ask if the Telum is worth it.
What makes the Telum different
The Vorsprung Telum is the only mass-produced coil shock that ships with a fully custom shimstack — built for your weight, bike model and riding style. There is no "standard tune". Combined with Vorsprung's patented Rapid Revalve, twin-tube architecture and Sprindex variable-rate coil, the Telum sits in a category of one.
Compared to a Fox Float X2, RockShox Vivid Coil or EXT Storia, the Telum trades off-the-shelf availability for a tune that's measurably closer to what a privateer World Cup racer pays five figures for. For most riders that's the gap between a "good shock" and a shock that disappears underneath them.
Pros
- Custom shimstack tuned to your weight, bike and terrain
- Rapid Revalve — change tune in under 5 minutes, no damper teardown
- Sprindex variable-rate coil included (±10–12% on the fly)
- Polymer spherical bearings reduce side-load and frame stress
- Twin-tube design isolates climb mode from descend tune
- Service interval: 100,000 vertical metres or 1 year
- Hand-built in Kamloops, BC, Canada
Cons
- —Lead time 3–4 weeks (every shock is built to order)
- —Premium pricing — not for buyers chasing cheapest coil
- —Coil weight penalty: ~150–250 g vs comparable air shock
On the trail — what we hear from riders
The most common feedback after a Telum install: "It got quieter."The bike tracks the ground without the rider noticing the shock working, and harsh hits no longer feel like the rear of the bike is fighting back. Mid-stroke support is the second thing people mention — Vorsprung's HBO (hydraulic bottom-out) lets you keep the shock active deep in the stroke without harsh bottom-outs on big hits.
On long descents the twin-tube design holds its tune. We've dyno-verified shocks before and after 30-minute alpine descents — the damping curve barely shifts. That consistency is the difference between feeling fast on rep 1 and feeling fast on rep 8.
Who should buy a Telum?
- Enduro / trail riders whose air shock feels harsh in the mid-stroke
- Heavier or lighter riders (<70 kg or >85 kg) poorly served by OEM tunes
- Riders racing or doing long park / shuttle days where heat-fade matters
- Anyone who already loves coil but wants a measurably better one
- Mechanics who want to revalve themselves — Rapid Revalve is unique
Why buy through an authorised installer
Picking the right spring rate and shimstack is the hardest part of buying a Telum, and it's the part that decides whether you'll love the shock or just like it. We build the Telum order with you — bike model, rider weight with kit, terrain, riding style — and verify the result on our CTW RD2 dyno before you collect it.
We also service every Vorsprung product on site. No shipping back to Canada, no third-party guesses. Workshop in Genarp, Sweden — we ship within the EU.
