Quick answer – Kids Ride Shotgun in short
The two KRS models
Kids Ride Shotgun Pro: latest model, quick-release clamp, anti-vibration system, magnetic foot-pegs. Around €200.
Kids Ride Shotgun Original: classic model, strap-based mount on the bar, slightly fiddlier install. Around €150.
Shotty (tow rope): separate product – elastic rope between your seatpost and the child's bar, for ages 4–8. Often sold alongside KRS.
We recommend Pro for frequent use, Original for occasional rides.
Compatibility with your MTB
Requirements: 80–200 mm of exposed steerer tube, straight bar or moderate riser bar (max 35 mm rise), no external cables blocking the clamp area.
Verified compatible: Specialized Stumpjumper / Turbo Levo (all gens), Trek Fuel EX / Rail, Cube Stereo Hybrid, Santa Cruz Bronson / Hightower / Megatower, Yeti SB-series.
Problematic: Canyon Spectral CFR with IPU internal routing, Pivot Switchblade pre-2020, Specialized Demo.
Safety rules
Helmets on both rider and child – always. XXS sizes that fit: Specialized Mio, MET Buddy, Lazer Lil Gekko.
No drops, no jumps, no bike park. KRS is for trails and singletrack at controlled speed.
Max speed 25 km/h (15 mph). Brake earlier – center of gravity is further forward.
Max child weight 22 kg / 48 lbs. Beyond that, switch to a tow rope and own bike.
